While Herapi, Medeiza, and K’N’Tara all have humanoid features only specific planets within this Galactic Arm count as true human worlds. The term “True Human” is flexible as the species, and varies from world to world. Variation in skin tone, height, basic build, and culture are common throughout all worlds considered truly human.

These scattered worlds often face raids, invasions, or even extermination from hostile aliens, and it is due to this common threat that the Coalition was formed. Any Human world no mater how primitive or culturally backwards can be admitted into the Coalition as long as they manage to supply funds, and or basic material, and supply troops for mutual defense. Worlds with higher technology will often have a lower tax and manpower burden as they can supply ships and weapons for the Human Defense League “HDL”.

Although all human cultures are tolerated within the Coalition many biases and prejudices exist. The HDL’s charter states that it will defend any and all worlds equally, this simple does not happen. High tech worlds always receive better defense and higher priority than other lower tech level planets. Also many Human cultures are antagonistic to one another. Fundamentally religious worlds can be at odds with highly secular planets, and people from technically proficient planets will often look down upon the “Cavemen” that they may have to work with. And Human supremacists are all too common.

Cultural differences are also taken into account when assigning people into different jobs within the HDL. Only persons with proper schooling for instance are allowed to crew and operate a starship. While the planetary Marines are much more liberal in whom they accept. Officers within the HDL will almost always be from high level and politically important planets. There are exceptions but they are rare.

As said above the term “Human” is highly flexible. Several races have been allowed into the Coalition even though they differ from the human main line considerably. The Ellein, for instance, are very tall and thin and have sharp features as well as pointed ears. They also seem to have other fundamental biological differences that are too complex to state here, but they were allowed into the Coalition when they asked in large part because of their bio-reconstruction and medical abilities. Likewise the Zwege were accepted in because of their extreme skill at asteroid mining even though their short and stocky frame, as well as their ability to survive in total vacuum for short periods, and their resistance to radiation mark them as far removed from the human norm.

The Coalition is devoted to protecting and benefiting all human worlds and the HDL is sworn to defend all of human space. Even with the considerable squabbling and infighting found in the Coalition it is a force to be reckoned with and most of the other space fairing species have learned to respect them.
